Osteoarthritis
Degenerative osteoarthritis or joint disease is one of the most common forms of arthritis. The primary characteristic is the breakdown of cartilage in joints that normally cushion the ends of bones. Such breakdown causes bones to rub against each other, causing pain and loss of movement. It most commonly affects middle-aged and older people, and can range from very mild to very severe. It affects hands and weight-bearing joints: knees, hips, feet, and the back.
Symptoms
- Gradual and subtle onset of deep aching joint pain
- Worse after exercise or weight bearing
- Often relieved by rest
- Joint swelling
- Limited movement
- Morning stiffness
- Grating on the joint with motion
- Joint pain in low barometric pressure weather
- Sometimes no symptoms
How Chiropractic Therapy Can Help
Chiropractic care works on relieving pain and minimizing complications associated with osteoarthritis. It may be able to address the cause of osteoarthritis if misalignment is an issue, or because of the way the patient sits, stands, or walks. Coupled with nutritional recommendations, chiropractic can contribute to improvement or possible reversal of osteoarthritis. Dr Forster will use gentle manipulation as well as draw on acupuncture and other therapies to tailor treatment for each patient.
